Trolling
This is the most common way of deep–sea game fishing enjoyed by specialist and recreational anglers. Anyone – young or old, men and women – can enjoy the adrenalin rush of trolling for big game fish. The method behind trawl fishing is to lay out a “spread” of lines, which consists of as many rods as your boat can take and your crew can handle. These lines have lures attached to them and are pulled by the boat at a slow and consistent speed until the fish strike.

Marlin
Bazaruto is famous for its giant black marlin as numerous fish passing the 1000 lb (450 kg) mark are caught. Blue and striped marlin are also present in these waters and the few boats, which have recently explored deeper waters with fast trolled lures, have had very encouraging results. Marlin season runs from September to April, with October to December being peak season.

Sailfish
The area might be famous for its black marlin, but Bazaruto’s winter run of sailfish probably attracts the most anglers to these waters. These acrobatic fish, which can attain 130 lbs and average around 70 lbs, are caught year round, although they are much more prolific between mid–May to mid–October.
Wahoo
Known to achieve speeds of over 70 km/h, these bullet–shaped fish are present all year round with a peak in the early summer months of September to November. In these waters, Wahoo average around 40 lbs, but bigger fish are frequently caught, with the resort’s record standing at 68 lbs.
Dorado
Colourful as a rainbow, this hard fighting fish takes into the air when hooked, providing a breathtaking spectacle. Bulls over 40 lbs are normally caught from September to April, mostly using fast trolling lures. The resort record stands at 61 lbs.

The area is also very popular for the sheer quantity of its
year round game fishing.
