Father & son Dave and Duncan Royston on Indigo Bay fishing
Submitted by: Indigo bay
November 2010
Father & son Dave and Duncan Royston (experienced fishermen in the Bazaruto Archipelago for the past 15 years) visited and experienced big game fishing in true Indigo Bay-style. In their own words this was by far their best fishing trip to the archipelago. Great resort and great fishing!
In their 7 days of Marlin fishing they released a total of 5 Marlin including two sizeable fish (of which were both anglers personal best). At 75 years of age, on 30 October, Dave fought a Black Marlin for just over 4 hours on 80 pound tackle, which was later released and estimated at over 800 pounds. On 02 November, in the late afternoon of their last day, they hooked into another monster that took Duncan 3 hours to subdue on an 80-pound line, this fish was estimated at just under 800 pounds. Other highlights of their trip was their first Black Marlin catch of the trip within 20 minutes of fishing on their first day and releasing a rare (for this waters) Striped Marlin (this was actually the first ever to be caught by a boat from Indigo Bay). They also caught and released an exceptional amount of game fish including large Dorado, Wahoo and Yellowfin Tuna.
Even as far as early November there are a lot of Humpback Whales around and, two days ago, our Indigo Bay skippers had a remarkable sighting of them swimming in the bay on the inside of the islands. There has also been a large number of pods of Spinner Dolphins which provide great entertainment (and camera moments) for our guests on their fishing and island excursions.
